چکیده

The use of biomarkers to evaluate the biological effects of pollutants in marine organisms represents a recent tool in biomontoring programs. The cyclopoida copepod Apocyclops borneoensis was exposed to different Ni treatments [0 (control), 10, 100, 1000 μg lNi] for 1, 2, 4, 7, 14 days. At each exposure time, acetylchlinesterase (AChE), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), glutathione (GSH) were analyzed. Additionally, lipid peroxidation (LPO) level was measured after a 14-day exposure. The results show that Ni treatment significantly stimulated copepod’s antioxidants SOD, GST and GSH at environmentally relevant concentrations after a certain exposure time. On the other hand, the exposure time significantly affected SOD and GSH. In contrast, Ni exposure significantly decreased LPO level, implying that the factor involved in LPO might not significantly depend on the operations and functions in the antioxidant defense system. In addition, Ni might also be a neurotoxic agent to copepods via changing AChE activity.

Effects of salinity, temperature, light intensity and light regimes on production, growth and reproductive parameters of Apocyclops dengizicus

The effects of salinity, temperature, and light conditions on production and development, longevity, survival and sex ratios of the cyclopoid copepod, A. dengizicus were determined. Seven different salinity levels (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 psu), four temperatures (20, 25, 30, 35 °C), three different light intensities (33.3, 85.3, 162.1 μmol photons/ m2/ s) and light regimes (24:0, 0:24, and 12...

Diversity and distribution of the free-living freshwater Cyclopoida (Copepoda: Crustacea) in the Neotropics.

Cyclopoida species from the Neotropics are listed and their distributions are commented. The results showed 148 species in the Neotropics, where 83 species were recorded in the northern region (above upon Equator) and 110 species in the southern region (below the Equator). Species richness and endemism are related more to the number of specialists than to environmental complexity. New researche...

DNA Barcoding of Metazoan Zooplankton Copepods from South Korea

Copepods, small aquatic crustaceans, are the most abundant metazoan zooplankton and outnumber every other group of multicellular animals on earth. In spite of ecological and biological importance in aquatic environment, their morphological plasticity, originated from their various lifestyles and their incomparable capacity to adapt to a variety of environments, has made the identification of sp...

A new species of Enterognathus (Copepoda, Cyclopoida, Enterognathidae) collected from the Seto Inland Sea, western Japan

A new species of the endoparasitic copepod Enterognathus (Cyclopoida, Enterognathidae) is described from a crinoid host in the Seto Inland Sea, western Japan. This is a third species of the genus and its first occurrence in the Pacific Ocean. The new species is distinguished from two previously known congeners by the morphology of the body somites, caudal rami, antennae and legs. Crinoid parasi...

Biochar impact on physiological and biochemical attributes of Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) in nickel contaminated soil

Disastrous effect of nickel on spinach was discussed by number of authors but the effect of amendments like biochar with nickel on Spinacea oleraceaL. is not still discussed by any author of the world because biochar was used as soil amendments which play a vital role in reducing mobilization and uptake of nickel by spinach plants.  As nickel contaminated plants are very harmful for th...
